Yumbah Aquaculture is a leading Australian seafood producer, operating across 17 sites in Victoria, New South Wales, Tasmania, and South Australia. The company farms mussels, oysters, abalone, and kingfish using sustainable systems that replicate natural processes, while reducing pressure on wild catch and upholding high standards of quality and environmental stewardship.
Challenges:
Reactive instead of a proactive approach: A largely reactive approach to safety instead of proactive systems lead to oversight and a lack of consistency.
Risk management: Risk management processes lacked structure and visibility across multiple sites.
Safety and compliance complexity (aquaculture): Food safety and quality requirements, AMSA marine safety obligations, External certifications (BAP, ASC) and operating across four different state safety jurisdictions.
Limited visibility across sites: With 17 locations, safety was inconsistent due to a lack of coverage.
