Scope and requirement
St Vincent de Paul Society Northern Territory (Vinnies NT) is a community‑based charity supporting people experiencing poverty, homelessness and social disadvantage across the Northern Territory.
Through volunteers, retail shops, and outreach services, the organisation provides emergency relief, including food, clothing, household goods, financial assistance, and advocacy.
As the organisation continued to grow across multiple sites, maintaining effective workplace health and safety systems became increasingly important.
The Challenge: Managing WHS Across Multiple Sites
Before implementing Safety Champion, Vinnies NT faced several challenges common to dispersed, community‑based organisations:
Reliance on paper‑based processes
Limited visibility of safety activities across sites
Inefficient incident reporting and risk management
Increasing compliance and audit demands linked to funding programs
These challenges resulted in time‑consuming administration, increased resource demands and a higher risk of reactive rather than proactive safety management. Maintaining accurate compliance records for audits and regulatory requirements was a growing concern.
