How We Do Business Better as a BCorp

Becoming a BCorp in Melbourne

At Safety Champion, we take pride in our BCorp Certification as it showcases how we do business better: with people, the planet and our community in mind.

“One thing that remains consistent is demand for greater governance and leadership accountability. The majority of Australians (85%) and New Zealanders (81%) believe businesses should consider people and the planet in decision-making.”

Since 2022, we have held our BCorp certification and have continues to progress and improve our standards since then, now holding a score of 112.9 (an increase of 18.5 from 2022.) This includes updating our people programmes, creating systems to be mindful of our environmental impact and engaging with local not for profits.

We love how BCorp awards businesses that consistently evolve for the better, that support their staff and impact their community. Being certified since 2022 makes us proud, particularly when BCorp brand awareness is on the rise in Australia and New Zealand.

“The most recent data from 2025 shows that31% of Australians report awareness of B Corp Certification (a 10% increase since 2024).35% of New Zealanders report awareness (a 13% increase since 2024).”

People‑First Workplaces Are Better Businesses

At Safety Champion, keeping people safe is at the core of our purpose. This goes beyond the workplace, but into the everyday life of those we impact. Safety Champion is designed to impact people, not just ensure compliance.

At the heart of B Corp certification is the belief that how people are treated at work matters, not only ethically, but commercially. The B Corp framework places strong emphasis on social impact, including fair labour practices, inclusion, well-being, and dignity at work.

For Safety Champion, this isn’t a new idea, it’s a continuation of what the business already stands for. Our people programmes are here to support parents, wellness, work-life-balance and fairness.

“Our People Programs have been designed specifically with our BCorp certification in mind - I love how this challenges us every day to be better. I’m proud to say we’re a BCorp."

Why this matters for better business:

People who feel safe, respected and heard are more engaged, more resilient, and more likely to contribute meaningfully to their organisation. B Corp gives Safety Champion an external framework that validates this approach and ensures those values are embedded not only in the product, but in how the business operates day‑to‑day.

Doing Business Better Means Thinking Long‑Term

Another core pillar of B Corp is long‑term sustainability and resilience. Rather than focusing on short‑term growth or quick wins, B Corp encourages businesses to consider the long‑term impact of their decisions on people, communities, and the environment.

This long‑term mindset closely mirrors how effective safety and risk management works.

Safety Champion isn’t designed to deliver one‑off fixes or surface‑level compliance outcomes. It supports organisations to build maturity over time, improving reporting behaviours, strengthening safety culture, and embedding continuous improvement.

Why this matters for better business:

Sustainable businesses are built by making decisions today that won’t create harm tomorrow. By aligning with B Corp principles, Safety Champion reinforces the idea that investing in safety, wellbeing, and ethical practices is a long‑term investment.

Alignment Between What We Sell and How We Operate

One of the strongest reasons B Corp matters to Safety Champion is credibility.

Safety Champion supports organisations to improve transparency, reporting, and accountability, particularly in safety and psychosocial risk. B Corp certification requires those same principles to be applied internally, through clear governance structures, ethical policies, and accountability mechanisms.

As part of the B Corp recertification process, Safety Champion has reviewed and strengthened internal policies and procedures, identifying opportunities to improve governance and accountability. This ensures the business is held to the same standard it encourages clients to adopt.

In other words, we don’t just promote better business practices, we commit to them.

Why this matters for better business:

Clients, partners and employees increasingly expect alignment with values. They want to work with organisations that practise what they promote. B Corp provides independent validation that Safety Champion’s values: care, transparency, accountability and impact, are embedded in how the business operates, not just in its messaging.

This alignment builds trust, strengthens reputation, and reinforces Safety Champion’s position as a purpose‑led organisation genuinely committed to doing business better.

BCorp as a Framework for Continuous Improvement

One of the most important and often misunderstood aspects of B Corp certification is that it is not a one‑off achievement. To maintain certification, businesses must undergo regular reassessment, meet evolving standards, and publicly demonstrate progress across governance, people, community, and environmental impact.

For Safety Champion, this aligns closely with how we think about safety and risk.

Just as effective safety management relies on ongoing review, learning, and improvement, B Corp provides a structured framework that encourages organisations to continually ask: How can we do this better? This includes reviewing policies, strengthening internal programs, and improving how impact is measured and communicated over time.

Safety Champion’s own B Corp journey reflects this mindset. The business has progressed its standards since first certifying in 2022, improving its impact score over time and strengthening people programs, governance systems, and environmental awareness as part of that process.

Why this matters for better business:

Continuous improvement builds trust. It signals to clients, employees and partners that the organisation is willing to reflect, learn, and adapt.

For Safety Champion, B Corp doesn’t replace our values or purpose. It gives us a clear, independent framework to challenge ourselves, track progress, and ensure we keep raising the bar as expectations around safety, wellbeing and ethical business continue to grow.

On a mission to impact 1 billion lives by 2035.
